Electric truck in Khalifa Port, UAE

Electric truck in Khalifa Port, UAEADPC-Khalifa-Port-1.jpgThe container terminal of Khalifa Port in UAE was officially put into operation in 2012. The expected capacity of the first phase terminal is 2.5 million TEU per year and the current processing capacity of the dock is 2 million TEU per year and supposed to increase by another 500,000 TEU after 3 new giant container quay cranes arrives at the port and put into operation. The second phase of the follow-up project will start when the time is suitable and all preparatory work for the civil engineering is ready. From the perspective of port operations, the processing capacity of the first phase terminal is able to meet the needs of logistics development and the estimated capacity of the second phase in the future will reach 5.5 million TEU per year from 2019 to 2020.

The terminal has conducted a deep research on how to optimize the yard and manage the container truck turnaround time, the effect seems good from the current situation of the yard operation. The arrival times for container truck has increased from 2-3 times per day into 5 times per day. Based on the global common vision of the construction of the clean and environmental port and the consideration of the future exhaustion of the fossil energy, Khalifa Port decide to introduce electric trucks for cargo turnover since 2020. Eco Power has provided 614.4V206Ah / 126.6KWh battery system for the first prototype car. It is deserved to mention that the temperature in Khalifa Port is very high throughout the year. Due to prolonged exposure to the sun, the temperature of the truck body can sometimes reach above 50°C. Therefore, we have specially configured a liquid cooling system for the battery system of the electric truck which can ensure that the battery pack can continue to work normally even under high temperature conditions. Port electric trucks equipped with the Eco Power battery system will under the 8-month test. If the test result is good, Khalifa Port expects to use electric trucks in large quantities for in-port transportation of goods since 2021.152087-bechtel-khalifa-port-unloading-quay-cranes-202.jpgWechatIMG4901.png WechatIMG4899.png WechatIMG4897.png
